Be Brave Bold Robot.

Request from Dean H., who is the singer and musician behind Be Brave Bold Robot - the band and formerly the zine.

Back in the days of the zine, I picked up a few that I thought looked interesting (they were interesting!). I kept them throughout the years and even cut one up and put some pieces into a painting of mine. More years went by, and I stumbled across the zines in a pile of collage materials I had dragged with me across the country and back. I saw the email address and decided to write an email. It went like this:

greetings!

this letter is going to be strange to write, so please forgive me for my lack of eloquence. i will admit first of all that i have never seen your band, but that this letter is regarding the zine "be brave bold robot".   i am wondering if this is something you are still working on and perhaps where i may find it. i was working on an art project the other day and came across three issues from 2001 i think, and felt compelled to track down your current email address.

so if nothing else, please take this as a token of my appreciation for a zine that made me happy many times over...

Dean wrote back to me, and was super kind and generally awesome all around. We corresponded a bit, and ended up connecting on facebook.  Turns out we had a bunch of mutual friends (none of whom knew each other). It took me another year or so, but I went to one of his shows and bought him a drink. He gave me a wonderful hug and are still in touch. I love going to BBBR shows and I will continue to support them however possible.
